Celebrating Construction including the Built in Quality Awards and the WMCCE Constructing Excellence Awards is the seventh such event in as many years involving the partners Acivico (formerly Birmingham City Council), CIOB and WMCCE.

The awards aim to represent the broadest spectrum of achievements and continue to evolve, reflecting the dynamic nature of the construction industry in the West Midlands.

In 2012, three of the West Midlands winners went on to win national Constructing Excellence awards, the highest number to have been achieved by the West Midlands.

Chairman announces changes at WMCCE

Chairman of WMCCE, David Bucknall, announced at the Celebrating Constructing 2012 Event at the ICC, Birmingham, on 6th July 2012 that WMCCE has had a painful but necessary transformation from subsidised public sector to stand alone private sector. He said that this had led to the end of the great partnership with University of Wolverhampton, and many thanks are owed by all to Professor Ian Oakes and his team at Wolverhampton.

He said "Our new Private Sector partners are Coventry University and their day to day support operations are led by Mark Abrams. This has invitably led to downsizing. We would all like to thank Phil Wilson, Michael Thompson, Frankie Yorke and the team for their valuable support - they have made a huge contribution to getting WMCCE from  start up to establishment over the last 5 years."

WMCCE was first established in April 2005. Michael Thompson was Executive Director from October 2006 until his retirement in April 2010. Phil Wilson was Operations Director from April 2006 until he took over as Executive Director in May 2010. Frankie Yorke was heavily involved in the creation of WMCCE in 2004 and 2005 and worked at WMCCE from the start of 2011.

With the support of AWM and ERDF funding from April 2005 until December 2011, the WMCCE team, led by Michael Thompson and Phil Wilson, built up a strong and valued organisation within the West Midlands Construction Industry, recognised and supported by much of the industry, both in the region and nationally, as one of the leaders within the Constructing Excellence Movement.

WMCCE is grateful for the support being provided to it by a number of organisations at the present time.
