Warwickshire based Alumet have received the
prestigious Green Apple Award - a major internationally
recognised environmental accolade. Representatives from the
specialist construction company were presented with the trophy at the Tower
of London on June 14th.
The presentations were made by star of screen and stage, Carol Royle, who was in top form and presented a passionate speech about the role every business plays in protecting the environment.
The Green Apple Awards are now in their sixteenth year and attracted more than 500 nominations this year. They are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
The award was in recognition
of Alumet's environmental progress during the last year, which
includes employing a full time Environmental Manager, creating a wildlife
garden at their Southam headquarters (opened by Dr David Bellamy) and
completely restructuring their policies and procedures to ensure
minimal environmental impact. This progress cumulated in the
company achieving ISO 14001 environmental
accreditation. Alumet have also installed photo voltaic solar panels on
their factory roof to provide a renewable electricity supply to their
production equipment.
Alumet work on projects across the UK providing systems such as windows, cladding and solar shading. The company has recently expanded their operations with the launch of a new division which specialises in photo voltaic solar panels and other renewable construction technologies.
