As part of an ongoing remit to support the Regional Economic Taskforce, The West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE) is leading the West Midlands’ construction sector with a new campaign to co-ordinate activity and communicate information concerning current and future sustainable construction methods.
With sustainability and a greener approach to construction acknowledged as a key area for the future prosperity of the UK’s construction industry, firms from across the West Midlands are being supported through the creation of a WMCCE-led network, so they can easily access and share information about some of the innovative construction solutions and sustainable building methods which are being developed across the region currently.
WMCCE is seeking to bring such green initiatives together under a holistic umbrella through the launch of a Sustainable Built Environment Forum for the West Midlands construction industry. The Forum is open to all construction companies regardless of size, and will aim to share information and advice concerning all the identified green schemes currently underway, and provide access for firms to find out more about how they can get involved in aspects of future sustainable construction opportunities
Phil Wilson, Operations Director at WMCCE, says: “The UK construction industry and the West Midlands in particular, needs to start planning now for a more collaborative and joined-up approach to the types of construction methods and building solutions which will be required in the future to support the sustainability building agenda. We have already identified in our region a number of key green initiatives that are underway, and WMCCE is intent on spreading the word in terms of how both large and small construction companies can benefit from a sharing of best practice and advice to potentially open up new business opportunities in the green building world of the future”
Phil Wilson continues: “The proposal to co-ordinate sustainable construction initiatives will bring together practitioners from public and private sectors, academics and policy makers from across the region to help disseminate best practice in new build and refurbishment across the sectors of health, education and housing, with the hope of engaging everyone involved in the process from design, procurement through to construction solution delivery.
Anyone interested in joining the new Forum should contact WMCCE for further information on forthcoming activities. 0121 688 4050.
