‘Go for Business’ in Wolverhampton

The Go for Business (including Find It In Wolverhampton and Building Schools for the Future projects, held at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton on 30th June 2010 brought together many local suppliers and sub-contractors keen to support the local economy.
Paul Hackney, Project Co-ordinator at the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence, said “The event was very well attended and gave delegates the opportunity to meet buyers from a number of public and private sector bodies that buy goods and services and learn more about the procurement procedures within these organisations."

Detailed information on a number of new opportunities was presented through four workshops:

The ‘Ready for Business’ workshop was presented by Dave Sheldon, Head of Corporate Procurement, Wolverhampton City Council and Jenny Long, Director, Iceblue.  This workshop explained the aims of ‘Find it in Wolverhampton’ and In-tend, the Black Country Business Portal. The briefing session highlighted the benefits of registering on these web-sites and provided details of how these will be used to source companies to supply Wolverhampton City Council, Black Country Councils, public bodies and local businesses.

‘Building Schools for the Future ‘, presented by Adrian Davies, Supply Chain Director, Carillion along with officers from the BSF programme and Local Education Partnerships, provided a brief update followed by information on how businesses can become involved in the programme.

‘Regeneration opportunities in Wolverhampton’ was presented by Steve Boyes, Director for Regeneration and Environment, Wolverhampton City Council, who mentioned some of the regeneration projects that are planned over the next few years and where there may be opportunities for businesses to get involved.

‘Housing in Wolverhampton’ was presented by Shaun Aldis, Director of Property Services, Wolverhampton Homes, and described Wolverhampton Homes’ efficiency agenda and associated targets for local engagement. In this session, Aldis highlighted some of the challenges facing the sector, the planned structural changes and procurement opportunities that are available within the local housing sector.
