The West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE), since its award of a second Advantage West Midlands / European Regional Development Fund contract, “Building on Advantage”, at the start of this year, is furthering its engagement with construction supply chains in the West Midlands.
WMCCE sees engagement with the supply chains to be a high priority activity. It is complementary to the Construction Action Plan developed for the West Midlands Task Force and helps small to medium sized companies (SMEs) to survive the recession and to be fit for better times to come.
Engagement can be in a number of ways, for example, through the region’s Constructing Excellence Clubs (supported by WMCCE), through Demonstration Projects, through the Regional and Local Academies and through Business Assists, working closely with Business Link West Midlands, Construction Skills and Learning and Skills Council.
Under “Building on Advantage”, WMCCE is to provide business assists for 300 companies over a three year period, ending in December 2011. This started earlier this year. Several businesses have been assisted already, others have signed up, and further companies have been identified.
At the start of July 2009, as a result of running an OJEU procurement process, WMCCE was able to appoint 23 specialist delivery partners. They cover a wide range of specialisms, as follows:
Whereas “Building on Advantage” is focussed on SMEs in the West Midlands, WMCCE is able to help others, such as Clients, Main Contractors, Developers, Architects and Consultants generally.
