A responsive introduction to site-sensitive issues
The environment in construction today makes or loses money, has legal implications and can turn stakeholders into friends or foes.
An urgent client / supplier management priority, it requires highly-targeted - rather than remote generic - training.
ISYS International’s Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management for Construction raises industry awareness of environmental risks and
opportunities. It recognises that employees and contractors make daily - sometimes hourly - decisions affecting environmental performance, stakeholder relationships and the bottom-line.
Designed for construction Certified by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), the four-day course speaks construction’s language, using construction-based case studies to engage decision-makers facing difficult daily choices.
Systematically categorising key environmental issues, it goes on to define practical, commercial, statutory and regulatory implications and
solutions.
A sharp focus on waste management, sound materials procurement, power and energy use, utilities, transport, emissions, noise, nuisance and housekeeping pinpoints issues that affect the sustainable bottom-line in competitive markets.
Responding to sustainable pressures
Construction faces growing pressure from EU and UK Government, public and private sector clients, agencies and regulators to balance good site practice with wider environmental and sustainable goals.
In response, many construction companies and sub-contractors have implemented their own
detailed environmental management system (EMS) certified to the stringent international
environmental standard - ISO 14001. To underwrite personal environmental competencies,
companies - such as Balfour Beatty, Carillion and Skanska - have formed rolling programmes for
all key staff to join the ISYS course, where delegates welcome its busy but informal style.
In parallel, many sub-contractors without their own EMS are often responsible for client
environmental performance. As a catalyst raising awareness of crucial issues - including the value
of client-brand and reputation from environmental credentials - the course enables suppliers to
reinforce client standing and stakeholder goodwill.
Sub-contractors committed to responsive, long-term client relationships are also encouraged to
apply their new understanding of environmental management by creating their own EMS.
