According to a news report by the BBC’s  Midlands Today, the Castle Bromwich based company Space4 Limited has seen a large increase in the demand for timber framed houses, to such an extent that it has had to quadruple its workforce.

Many of the workforce started in the car industry but moved across to construction when redundancies took place.

The company is talking about a further 150 employees by the summer to meet demands.

According to the National Housebuilding Council (NHBC), there were

• 159,000 new homes built in 1999
• 200,700 new homes built in 2007
• 106,000 new homes buil in 2008
• 88,100 new homes built in 2009.
