The new Smith's Wood Sports College opened in Sept 2009 as part of the Government's flagship Building's Schools for the Future programme to rebuild or remodel every secondary school in England.

A number of professional practices are involved in Building Schools for the Future (BSF), either supporting Local Authorities or advising bidding consortia. What is BSF, how is it being delivered and what are the specific challenges of rebuilding a new school on its existing site whilst keeping the old school fully operational?
