Questionnaire Invitation - A Survey into ICT for Construction Logistics

6th Jul 2010

Logistics practice in the construction industry is still lagging behind industries like retail and manufacturing due to some problems such as fragmentation of construction project teams and limited application of real-time data retrieval/situation awareness systems.

The major problem boils down to the lack of integrated information flow among the components of the logistics system. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have the potential to address the above stated problem. For example, ICT-based tracking systems can be used to determine the real-time location of delivery vehicles en-route the construction sites from suppliers and also monitor stocks level in the storage on site.

While several alternative ICT systems are available, their costs and benefits vary significantly. Therefore, there is need to develop a toolkit which can be used to analyse the cost and benefits of alternative ICT-based construction logistics systems.

Opinions of practitioners in the industry will be very useful to identify costs and benefits related to the performance of any construction logistics system. For this reason you are invited to participate in an online questionnaire and express your opinions on this subject. Your contributions will be highly appreciated.
